I had a lot of paperwork to discuss at various places in town, and I also ordered a pair of new tyres and tubes for the Atlas. I just sold it so I am fitting new tyres and a chain and sprocket kit for the new owner. Hopefully the tyres will be in stock tomorrow.
Today I have been running around a lot.

Little to show today in terms of output. Yesterday I took a frame to a company to be straightened and damage welded, but today I went back to discuss strengthening of the frame around the headstock. I then went on to my chromer to collect some parts that had been chromed, zinc plated or polished.
Excellent 200km round trip on the Corsa. Weather was a perfect 22ºC. Today I finished making the new brackets for the coils and painted them. Then I test fitted them so I can start to run the wires and connect them.
I also fitted the Witt ignition box as discreetly as possible. Next step will be to run the wires and make the connections once everything is in their final position. I will manually time the ignition to the engine and once started I can strobe it for accuracy. I didn't do much in the garage today. Suffering another migraine, 3rd in 8 weeks.
Did some reparation work on the frame of a series 2 triple as it goes on Monday for frame repairs and straightening. They wanted the engine back in the frame, swing arm on and rear wheel in place. This way the can check alignment in all axes. I also drilled out the old steering lock as once it comes back from repairs it goes straight for painting. I also took my project bike out for another shale down run. It has only around 200km on it since a complete restoration and I have to run the engine in as well as debug the newly built bike. Today I saw the revcounter was revolving in it's holder so I will tighten/pack out the support bracket. The throttle is not returning quick enough so the revs hang up a bit making gear change a bit notchy. Again, an easy fix. Anyway, it was a nice day and I had a pleasant 50km ride in around 20ºC temperature. By the way I would like to repeat that if anyone has any questions about my posts or any Laverda-related questions in general you can contact me in 2 ways. Either click on the comments button (usually says 0 comments) or by using the Contact icon at the top of the page. I am happy to answer any such questions. If I don't know the answer I will try to find it. I look forward to hearing from you. The original ignition systems are now approaching 40 years old and a common issue is deterioration of the wiring insulation. In addition the original advance curve is pretty abrupt and can be improved. This bike has to have a new ignition system so I selected a Witt DMCII system and Dyna coils so the whole system was new and of modern design. The first problem was to find a way to mount the Dyna coils as they are quite a bit fatter than the original coils, and space is limited. So, after a lot of head scratching and experimentation I came up with some brackets and a way to fit everything in the space available. Now I just need to make the brackets look pretty. Next task is to install the Witt hardware and wire everything up. It is reasonably straightforward but it is made more difficult as all the text is in German, and there are only a few diagrams. Hopefully I will get it all finished some time next week. I am also waiting on a few connectors and rubber covers for the coils before I can complete it.
So, back and ready to work again.
Today I finished the Motodd and gave it a clean. I just have to fit new front brake pads when they arrive and it is completed. So now I turn my attention to the Jota. I have to fit a Witt ignition system and new Dyna coils before I take it to the new owner. |
