Started stripping down a tired Jota engine today. Oil leak all over the front of the engine. A little oil goes a long way, but this seems to have been leaking for some time. Could be anything from a warped head, micro cracks around cam tunnel from overtightening or dodgy gasket. Time will tell.
Valve seats are starting to recede based on shim thicknesses and the position of the valves in the head.
Pistons were a loose fit in the bores and could be wiggled back and forth with light finger pressure. Liners and pistons were showing the usual wear marks.
So, rebore and new pistons for sure, not sure yet on what love the head needs.
Plan is to get the rebore and any head work done ASAP and rebuild the engine with new cam and primary chains as it is needed for early June.

I also started stripping down the carbs on my own bike as the winter fuck up fairies had visited and left their mark. I already tried to strip them down but lacked (at the time) the necessary tamper-proof screw bits to disassemble it fully. Bought a set last week. Modern fuel and modern brassware in carbs really don't like each other as there was a lot of greenish crud lurking in every nook and cranny. My guess is the ethanol in modern fuel attacks the copper in the brass parts. A thorough job will be done as I want to really use the bike more this year. Last couple of years was spent preparing for the return to the UK, then setting up the workshop here. As a result 2 summers worth of riding were lost.
More big plans this year still to come, but bike riding is included in them.
