Well, winter arrived in a rush this week. Snow for the last day or two and the ground is still freezing all day.
Still, no rest for the wicked so work has to continue.
I had to reorganise the workshop to make more horizontal space in order to lay out and start rebuilding the Jota engine. I thought I would have a lot more space since selling the Atlas, but this was soon taken up by another bike waiting an engine stripdown and rebuild.
So, the Jota chassis was relocated to the floor and the engine parts laid out on the bike table, now the operating table.

Head has been rebuilt with new seats, valves and guides. Barrels have been rebored to suit the new high compression pistons. And the crank has been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with new bearings throughout. I need to thoroughly clean these parts and the crankcases to remove all blast media before I can start the rebuild. All sorts of new parts waiting to be installed (4C cams, chains, kevlar clutch and much more.
Interesting weeks ahead. I do like building things from individual parts. That way I know what has gone into it and also that no corners have been cut. Not a cheap way, but ultimately cheaper than a half-baked job that only needs to be done properly further down the line.
