I spent some time wrapping up the blue bike project. Connected up the loom, bled brakes and clutch, filled with oil, fitted battery. Everything works as it should, engine sounds sweet. Just a few items to snag off but for now it goes to the back of the queue.

It's hard to get things done these days, completely understandable considering what the world is going through. Here are some photos of my blue bike project (Project Phoenix) as it rises from the dead. The engine was built up from parts sourced far and wide. The previous engine was written off when a conrod broke through the cases and the metal swarf killed the rest of the engine. All built now and installed in the frame. All I need now is time to complete the build and get it road ready.
In these difficult times it's hard to keep occupied and motivated. I have added some more photos in the gallery of restorations that I have completed. Maybe it inspires you to get out into the cave and fettle yours?
Here's one that is waiting for lockdown to finish so I can run it in for the owner. As some or most of us will be in lock down at the moment here are some photos to inspire you to get out on your bikes once lockdown is lifted. Well, the show has been and gone now. Set up on Friday, followed by public admittance Saturday and Sunday. The attendance seemed to be good but the number of stands in the new bike and classic bike halls seemed lower than normal. Still, more space per stand.
As far as can be determined this early it was pretty successful. Lots of discussions promoting Laverdas, wide range of bikes on the stand, a few T-shirts sold for the ILOC and a lot of flyers given out for LG Express. I had many good discussions that may lead to more work coming my way, and it looks like the SFC 1000 may have found a new home. Looking forward to next year where I will try to have more bikes across a wider range on the stand. No Breganze 750s this year. Might get a 100 single and a 200 twin with a bit of luck. Thought I'd better get some practice in setting up the display before this weekend coming's Scottish bike show.
Starting to do final organising for the Scottish bike show next weekend. There will be over 100 ILOC T-shirts, caps, etc on sale on the Laverda stand. I just counted and sorted them by size this morning. Prices start at £5, so a real bargain. I still have to clean and detail the 2 bikes I'll be exhibiting. The other 4 bikes will be presented by their owners. Hopefully the weather will be kind. It was only 2 years ago the show was cancelled due to heavy snow and re-scheduled for 4 weeks later, but many exhibitors lost a LOT of money due to cancelled hire vans, show stand hire etc. Each and every stand has a hell of a lot of organising to make it happen. Come along and support your favourite new or classic bike exhibitors. Here are a couple of photos from earlier shows to get you in the mood. Friday setting up (2017) Final display
Nice as they are, some folk like to build specials. Usually the main criterion is a different frame, but not always the case. Here are 3 I have worked on.
As always there is plenty of work to do. Some projects are relatively quick, whereas full restorations can take over a year. There are several engine rebuilds going on simultaneously, several full restorations and various bikes in for quick work, that ends up being a deeper operation as mission creep occurs. I have had bikes come in for a simple service, and "while you are at it" requests turn into an almost full restoration, with new chrome, bodywork, wiring, tyres, brakes etc. I'm happy to do this as it means the bike is more likely to be used and to run better as a result. On top of this I usually have a couple of my own projects, the last one being the red 1200. Right now I have a blue RGA and a 'mule' which I am undecided about. One minute I want to make it a street tracker style, the next minute I want to make it an enduro style, along the lines of the Atlas or the Triumph Tiger. Like I said, plenty! Here are some I prepared earlier. |
