Oil leak at the cam tunnel looks to have been caused (at least in part) by a broken head gasket.

Oil leak at the cam tunnel looks to have been caused (at least in part) by a broken head gasket.
Deeper into it I see potential reasons for oil consumption. Looks like pitting on one of the liners was not eradicated when new pistons were fitted by a previous builder of the engine. Cross-hatching is still present but did not remove the pitting. Also found heavy scuffing on the front and back faces of all 3 pistons with corresponding marking on the liners.

Instead of chasing further potential sources for the oil leak at the front of the engine around the cam tunnel I will be fitting a substitute restored head. This head looks like it may be porous at the cam tunnel area as I see voiding in the casting. I can then get this attended to at my leisure. No sign of cracks in the casting.
